Chandrashtama in Vedic Astrology

What is Chandrashtama in Vedic Astrology?

According to Vedic astrology, Chandrashtama denotes a day when the Moon transits the 8th house from your Moon sign. The word ‘Chandrashtama’ is derived from two words – ‘Chandra’ meaning Moon and ‘Ashta’ meaning eight. Moon takes two and a half days to move from one moon sign to the next and hence, this period is known as Chandrashtama for the particular moon sign natives. Chandrashtama days are generally considered inauspicious to commence any activity.

Chandrashtama periods show strong malefic results on Mondays, Moon Horas, or when Moon is transiting her own constellations (Rohini, Hasta, and Sravana). So, if your chandrashtama happens to coincide with the above factors and you happen to have pressing engagements that cannot be postponed, then certain simple remedies should be performed to mitigate the possible malefic influences upon you.

Exceptions to Chandrashtama Dosha👇

The adverse influences of Moon in 8th house get mitigated, under the following conditions:

1. If a benefic Jupiter aspects the Moon in Chandrashtama, the blemish gets neutralized.

2. If Venus occupies 8th house from Moon in Chandrashtama, more benefic than malefic results would be experienced during Chandrashtama.

3. If Moon attains Chandrashtama in the stars of Jupiter or Venus, the blemish is less serious.

4. If Moon is strong with more ishtaphala than kashtaphala in Shadbala, occupying more than 4 benefic vargas in Vargabala or is having 6 or more bindus in Ashtakavarga in the natal chart, Chandrashtama will be less adverse.

5. The Chandrashtama caused in transit by a Moon which is weak and afflicted in natal chart, would generally be unfavourable in one or the other way.

6. If Moon is conjoined with or aspected by a benefic Jupiter in the natal chart, then also Chandrashtama will not be adverse.

7. If Moon happens to be the Atma karaka for the native Chandrashtama will not prevail.

Effective remedies for Chandrashtama

1) Donate milk for abhishekam of deity in a near-by temple.

2) Sit calmly for 5 minutes before going out. Close your right nostril and inhale/exhale only through the left nostril. At the end of 5 minutes walk out taking your first step with the LEFT FOOT.

3) Everyone is aware of Moon’s connection with Shiva and hence worshipping Lord Shiva and offering milk and water to Shivling will definitely bring you composure and stability.

4) If you are losing your temper easily and keep feeling sad, meditate and try to concentrate on the child form of Shri Krishna it will help you calm your mind.

Hope this helps…
